For nearly 25 years, J. Kyle Keener has worked to bring the visual impact
of magazine photography to some of the country’s leading newspapers.
The former Detroit Free Press chief photographer joined the staff
of his hometown paper thirteen years ago after a nine-year run at
The Philadelphia Inquirer.
At the Inquirer he traveled extensively, covering AIDS in Uganda,
the end of apartheid in South Africa, the aftermath of genocide in Rwanda
and destruction of the Amazon rain forest, among other issues.
He is a 6-time winner of Regional Photographer of the Year honors from
the National Press Photographers Association. The Society of News Design
has consistently honored his efforts in their international competitions.
Kyle graduated from Central Michigan University with a degree in journalism
before joining the staff of The Kansas City Times, In K.C. he developed a
specialty in studio photo illustration and lighting, becoming a national trend
setter in the genre.
The prestigious Poynter Institute for Media Studies calls upon Kyle often to
teach art direction, photo illustration and creative brainstorming techniques
to students and professionals from around the globe. |
